Have you ever tried to make your own soap? I have wanted to for quite some time, but have not had the time to do so. So this morning I just did it! Anyways, Here is the recipe I used. I got it off the website Raising Olives. There are MANY recipes on the internet. But this one worked for us and it was really easy. The next time I try it though I am going to try and make the soap that the Duggar’s use. You can click on over to them and see what they use!
Laundry Soap Recipe
2 gal. hot water
1 bar of soap, grated
2 c. baking soda (not washing soda)
Start by grating 1 bar of soap. I used dial, but I think you can pretty much use what you want!

Then put it in a pot, and fill the pot enough to cover your water. Cook this on low until it dissolves.

While your soap is cooking, measure out 2 gallons of water and boil it.

Once your soap is melted and your water is hot, combine them in a big enough container to mix. I used a bucket. Stir them well.

Then you add 2 cups of Baking Soda

You need to mix this in slowly, see how it fizzes up…

And if you are not careful, um like me, and get lazy and just dump the rest in…well you end up with a big mess on the floor…and let me tell you it was a BIG mess to clean up!

After I cleaned up the above mess…I stirred the rest well and then poured them into empty containers of tide bottles. I had been saving them. So there ya go! Homemade soap. It works well, and it is cheap!
Wow…was it really worth all the time, trouble, and mess to make your own laundry detergent? How many washes can you get out of what you made? Cost (including labor) of making it? I think I’ll stick with my Tide for Sensitive Skin, thanks!
Well that batch made 96 loads, and the total cost for that was $1.45…That is pretty good deal! It really was not hard to make. Did I make a mess the first time, well you obviously saw the picture and the mess. LOL!!! I had fun doing it though. I probably will not do this ALL the time, but will try it again for sure. I love Tide as well! The laundry that I have done with this recipe all comes out clean and smells good!
